Order Policies

Placing Orders

We try to keep a variety of  6'' & 8'' cakes available for immediate purchase. We highly recommend placing the order in advance by calling 516.612.2697 or via email cakes@littlesugarshop.com. We do our best to accommodate last minute orders, but we can not guarantee availability. Full payment is required when placing the order.

Custom Orders

Please note that a 50% non-refundable deposit is required to place an order. Final payment is due 2 weeks prior to the delivery or pick up date. In the event of cancellation, the deposit is forfeited. Orders should be placed 2-3 weeks in advance or as far in advance as possible. Some designs may require additional time.  No changes will be accepted 7 days prior to due date.  Exact matches of decorative styles and colors are not guaranteed.

This is an edible product after all. Please note different cake decorators have different styles so slight variations in decoration style are possible. Our cakes are handmade and not mass produced so each cake is individual to you; this is what makes them so special. The web site pictures are a guide but the final product may vary slightly .

Refunds

All sales are final. In the unlikely event that you are not happy with your order let us know as soon as possible so that we can fix any errors.  Please note that we do not provide refunds in cases where an item was prepared correctly but the texture or flavor did not meet your personal preference. All refunds will be given in store credit only.  No cash back . No refunds will be issued for cancellations made without at least 14 days notice. Note, that regardless of the cancellation date the 50% deposit is always non-refundable.

Delivery

Delivery is available by a third party. Delivery cost is based on distance and tolls . The delivery charge is confirmed in advance with your approval. We require that you provide a two hour window and a contact person at the location. Apartment buildings and locations where parking is not available, a curbside delivery will be made. If no one is available to receive an order or an incorrect address is provided the order will be returned to our shop.

At venues/locations where stairs need to be used assistance may need to be provided to the cake handler.  It can be a difficult to navigate stairs with a large multi-tier cake.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I order a cake?

You can place an order over the phone or in person or via email. We suggest 2-4 weeks notice on all custom cake orders and at least 2-3 months notice on all wedding cake orders. We require as much notice as possible on any cake requiring artwork and sculpted cakes.

When is the best day to order a custom cake?

If you are looking to spend some time to discuss your cake the best days are Tuesday-Thursday. Saturday is not a good day for consultations. Saturday is our busiest day and it would not be fair to you to not be able to provide enough time to discuss your cake with you.

Do we design trademarked character cakes?

No.  We can create a cake that matches the colors of the theme.

Do you offer delivery?

Yes. We will deliver specialty cakes in the tri-state area. Delivery charges are based on distance from the shop along with any tolls. Please make delivery arrangements when placing your order.  If you choose to pick up your cake from the shop please make sure you have the proper vehicle to transport the cake.  The cake needs to sit flat in the trunk of a car or SUV.  The cake needs to sit level, not on a seat.  The LITTLE SUGAR SHOP is not responsible for damage done to a cake during transport.  Once a cake leaves the shop it is your responsibilty.  Cakes need to be kept cool at 65-75 degrees Fahrenheit and out of direct sunlight.

Can I have fresh flowers on a cake?

No, we do not place fresh flowers on cakes.

What is fondant frosting?

Fondant frosting is a sugar dough that is applied to the surface of a cake to make it very smooth, almost porcelain like. It does go over the buttercream frosting, so that if your guests do not prefer the fondant, they can simply peel it back and eat the frosting underneath. We offer cakes in both buttercream and fondant frostings.

If I bring a picture of a cake done in fondant, but I want the cake done in buttercream, will it look the same?

No.  The only way to achieve a flawless finish is through using fondant. Buttercream will show spatula marks, and air bubbles, and is also affected by heat and humidity. If you choose a buttercream cake for the summer months, it must be placed in a venue that has a cool, air conditioned environment.
